Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 24, 2025

Look, we're a small shop that takes your privacy seriously. This isn't one of those cookie-cutter policies written by lawyers who've never touched a wrench. We've put together what you actually need to know about how we handle your info when you work with us or visit our site.

When you bring your ride to us or reach out online, we're gonna need some basic stuff to actually help you out:

  • Contact Details: Your name, phone number, email - the usual. Can't call you when your car's ready if we don't have your number, right?
  • Vehicle Info: Make, model, year, VIN, mileage. This isn't us being nosy - we need this for parts ordering and knowing what we're working with under the hood.
  • Service History: What work we've done, parts we've installed, diagnostics we've run. Helps us track patterns and catch issues before they become expensive problems.
  • Payment Info: Credit card details when you pay, though we don't actually store the full card numbers - our payment processor handles that securely.
  • Website Stuff: IP address, browser type, pages you visit. Standard web analytics so we know if our site's actually useful or a total mess.

We're not selling your data to sketchy third parties or spamming you with junk. Here's what we actually do with it:

  • Service Your Vehicle: Obviously. Book appointments, order parts, perform the work, send you invoices.
  • Keep Records: Warranty purposes, tracking what's been done to your car, legal requirements for shop records.
  • Contact You: Updates on your service, appointment reminders, occasional heads-up about recalls or important maintenance.
  • Improve Our Shop: Figure out what services people need most, spot trends, make our website less annoying to use.
  • Legal Stuff: Sometimes we're required to keep records for tax purposes or respond to legal requests. Boring but necessary.

We're not gonna send you endless marketing emails unless you've specifically asked for that. And even then, there's always an unsubscribe button.

Yeah, we use cookies - the digital kind, not the ones from Tim Hortons. Here's the deal:

Essential Cookies

These keep the site working properly - remembering items in your cart, keeping you logged in, that sort of thing. Can't really turn these off without breaking everything.

Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics to see how people use our site. Which pages get visited, where people click, how long they stick around. Helps us know if something's broken or confusing.

Your Cookie Choices

Most browsers let you block cookies entirely, but honestly, it'll make the site pretty frustrating to use.

We're not out here selling customer lists. But there are some situations where we share info:

  • Parts Suppliers: Gotta give them your VIN and vehicle details to get the right parts ordered.
  • Payment Processors: When you pay by card, that info goes through secure payment systems. We never see your full card number.
  • Service Providers: Email systems, scheduling software, website hosting - the tools we use to run the business.
  • Legal Requirements: If we're legally required to hand over info (court orders, government requests, etc.), we'll comply with Canadian law.
  • With Your Permission: If you ask us to coordinate with your warranty company or insurance, we'll share what's needed.

That's it. No shady data brokers, no selling email lists, none of that garbage.

Security's important to us. We're not some massive corporation with a whole IT department, but we do take reasonable precautions:

  • Our website uses SSL encryption (that little padlock in your browser)
  • Payment processing goes through PCI-compliant systems
  • Customer records are stored securely with access limited to staff who need it
  • Paper documents with sensitive info get shredded when we're done with them
  • We keep our systems updated and use proper passwords (no "password123" here)

Nothing's 100% hack-proof, but we're doing our best to keep your info secure.

Under Canadian privacy laws (specifically PIPEDA), you've got some rights about your personal info:

  • Access: You can ask to see what information we have about you and your vehicle.
  • Correction: If something's wrong or outdated, let us know and we'll fix it.
  • Deletion: Want us to delete your info? We can do that, though we might need to keep some records for legal/tax reasons.
  • Opt-Out: Don't want marketing emails? Unsubscribe anytime. Just remember we'll still need to contact you about actual service appointments.
  • Complaints: If you think we've mishandled your info, you can file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

To exercise any of these rights, just give us a shout at service@obsidrixriftborn.info or call (604) 555-7829.

We don't keep stuff forever, but we can't delete everything immediately either:

  • Service Records: Generally kept for 7 years. Helps with warranty claims, tracking vehicle history, and covers us legally.
  • Financial Records: Tax law requires us to keep invoices and payment records for 7 years.
  • Marketing Lists: Until you unsubscribe or we haven't heard from you in a couple years.
  • Website Analytics: Google Analytics data gets auto-deleted after 26 months.

After these periods, we securely delete or anonymize the data. No point hoarding old files anyway.

Our site might link to parts manufacturers, diagnostic tool companies, or other resources. Once you click those links, you're on their turf and their privacy policies apply, not ours. We're not responsible for how they handle your data.

Always check out privacy policies on sites where you're entering personal info or making purchases.

We might update this policy occasionally - new laws come out, we add new services, technology changes, whatever. When we make significant changes, we'll post the updated version here with a new date at the top.

For major changes, we might send an email to let you know. Otherwise, it's worth checking back here once in a while if you're curious.

Got questions about how we handle your data? Something unclear in this policy? Think we messed up?

We'll do our best to sort things out. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can always contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Bottom Line

We're a local shop that values your trust. We'll handle your personal info responsibly, keep it secure, and only use it for legitimate business purposes. No shady stuff, no spam, no selling your data. If you've got concerns, just talk to us - we're real people running a real business, and we'll work it out.
